Ember & Moss
Dragon Blood Jasper
Deep olive green and dark burgundy-red — two colors that shouldn't work together as well as they do, and yet here we are.
Dragon blood jasper is one of those stones that earns its name. The green is dense and mossy, the kind you find in old forests where the light barely reaches. The red moves through it like something living — veins of it cutting across the green in a way that looks intentional even though nothing about this stone was planned by human hands. These chunky barrel beads are substantial on the wrist. This is not a background bracelet. It shows up.
Ember & Moss. Two things that shouldn't coexist, and do.
Part of Unearthed — a collection of natural gemstone bracelets, each stone chosen for what it looks like straight out of the earth.
THE STONE
Dragon Blood Jasper epidote & piemontite / metamorphic / green & red combination
Dragon blood jasper is found almost exclusively in Western Australia, near the town of Marble Bar, and is a combination of two distinct minerals — epidote, which produces the deep olive to forest green, and piemontite or red jasper, which produces the burgundy-red veining. The two formed together in metamorphic rock over millions of years, creating a stone that is as geologically unusual as it looks visually. It is sometimes also called dragon stone. The combination of these two minerals in a single stone is rare outside of its primary Australian source, which contributes to its value and relative scarcity compared to more common jasper varieties. Jasper in general has one of the longest documented histories of human use — it appears in ancient Egyptian scarabs and amulets, in the breastplate of the Hebrew high priest described in the book of Exodus, in Roman signet rings, and in decorative objects across Native American, Asian, and European cultures spanning thousands of years. Dragon blood specifically has been used by Indigenous Australian communities for generations and carries cultural significance in its region of origin. The name, while a trade name rather than a formal mineralogical term, captures something real about what this stone looks like — something old, something powerful, something that has been through fire and come out green on the other side.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Dragon blood jasper is a durable stone and holds up well to daily wear. Remove before swimming, soaking, or showering to protect the stretch cord over time. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, perfumes, and lotions. The barrel shape has more surface area than a round bead — wipe clean regularly with a soft dry cloth to keep the finish looking its best. Store flat or in a pouch away from harder jewelry that could scratch the surface. The red and green coloring is entirely natural and will not fade or rub off with normal wear.
